The Boze Fire is located on the Tiller Ranger District of the Umpqua National Forest. The fire is burning in steep, rugged terrain in the French, Boze, Prong,and Copeland Creek drainages. The fire was the result of lightning from storms that passed over the Forest on September 12 and 13, 2009. The Rainbow Creek Fire is located on the Diamond Lake and Tiller ranger districts of the Umpqua National Forest. Also a lightning-caused fire, Rainbow is located in the upper Black Rock Creek drainage and is partially in the Rogue-Umpqua Divide Wilderness Area. This fire was reported on September 22, 2009. For both incidents, fire managers emphasized reducing the risk of firefighter exposure and containing costs to taxpayers. Firefighting strategy included tactics based on criteria specific to the fires with high probability of effectiveness and success in response to fire conditions.
